Fossil - The Times They Never Change

Fossil is a music project based in Texas and all these desert landscapes are reflected in the lonely, captivating sounds on the bands second EP, Mexico City Midnight. The Times They Never Change stands out from the aforementioned release for the sadness of the words and the isolated sadcore feelings that emits with such ease that the spoken boy/girl words work like a relaxant injection just before everything turns into black! This is a unique road trip dressed up in exquisite lo-fi sounds that somehow brings back the soulful feelings that i’d once felt with the masterful La increible Aventura LP by the great Migala. Heart aching between the blurry clouds….

Mexico City Midnight EP is available for free download on Fossil’s bandcamp page.

Tender Age - The Last Thing That Kept Me Here

I felt overwhelmed from the opening tunes of The Last Thing That Kept Me Here. Portland’s Tender Age is a shiny mixture of everything that you’ve loved back in the ’90s. The sadcore atmospher of Low, the ambient melancholy of Mazzy Star, the frenzy sad guitars of Field Mice and even the spacious chords of Joy Division (i know it’s not in the ’90s but still…) are all here in the most charming way possible. Press play so to witness the revival glory sound of the past from a band that you should keep your eyes on.

Tender Age EP is available for free download at their bandcamp page.

Half The Sky - Paper Moon

Washington’s DC duo band Half The Sky are providing their minimalist dream pop in plain sight without any hesitation. Their self titled EP provokes a dark, inner timid child while digging deep into the roots of a sadcore universe drawing its inspiration from the awkward pop of Low and the eerie 4AD incarnation. Paper Moon is like a growing pain, a tribal game of haunting memories re-creating a beautiful present! This is deeply emotional and there’s no surprise that they’ve covered in their EP one of my favorite songs ever, Low’s Sunflowers……

Half The Sky’s EP is available for download over here.

Wickerbird - The Fold

I have to say that my mind went travelling to the vast expanses of the mountains with the sorrow melodies of Blake Cowan aka Wickerbird. From the opening track of The Crow Mother LP you can sense the sadness and loneliness that this guy is feeling! The Fold feels too lonely to be recorded in New York than let’s say over some wild mountains but we all know that the big city is a bitch!
